Scotland   Saturday 6th October 2018    St Andrews

We plan a trip to St Andrews on Saturday 6th October to see the Maitland Heriot photo collection. Isabella Maitland Heriot was an active photographer, and one of the earliest practitioners of photography. . She was trained either by Fox Talbot or by one of his associates in 1848. Her album includes photos of Lacock Abbey, Fox Talbot's home. The Getty Collection in Los Angeles has bought some of her photographs, which gives an indication of the importance of her work. She died young, aged 23 in 1853.

Our plan is:

10.00 Meet at British Golf Museum for coffee

10.45 Depart for Napier Library, North Street to see Maitland Heriot photo collection

Golf enthusiasts visit The Open Collection at the Golf Museum

13.00 Lunch at  The Seafood Ristorante, St Andrews

Booking forms go out late August.   However, do contact the Chief -

England Saturday 14th July 2018    Ham House   Richmond on Thames

Ham St, Richmond-upon-Thames TW10 7RS

Ham House is special – it is the only 17thhouse in Europe with its furnishings and decoration intact and unchanged from that period. It is a treasure trove. William Murray, a close associate of King Charles 1ststarted the Ham collection and helped the King to acquire works for his own world famous collection, featured recently at the Royal Academy.  Ham also contains the furniture and pictures purchased by his daughter Elizabeth Murray, Countess of Dysart in her own right and Duchess of Lauderdale, and the Duke himself in the 1670s. Nearly all the furniture and pictures listed in the inventory of 1683 are still in the house.

Many of our members have visited Ham several times, so we are arranging a special arts tour to concentrate on the great treasures of the Long Gallery, the Green Closet (of miniatures) the Queen’s Apartment and the closets of the Duke and Duchess – their personal reception rooms. We shall have the house to ourselves for this tour!

There will be plenty of time to visit the rest of the house and its gardens after the specialist tour.
